Dark Utopia

Have you ever wonderedwhat living in a perfect world would be like? The novel The Giver by Lois Lowry shows how every utopian society has a dark side. Everyone in the community has all the same things and amount of people and even does everything at the same time. In the story “The Giver” Jonas see’s a baby get released and thinks it’s a horrible thing. As you can see, their community has a dark side.

One reason that every utopian society has a dark side is that someone will most likely find something out that there governor, leader, king, president, or anything else isn’t telling them. That could cause a utopia to become a normal world with conflicts and angry people if the things they weren’t telling them got out. If things get out of hand it wouldn’t be a utopia because it’s not a perfect world then. You would think that the giver community is not a perfect world because they release people and they can never return to their community. "For a contributing citizen to be released from the community was a final decision, a terrible punishment, an overwhelming statement of failure.” This quote is important because you can tell that the main character Jonas thinks this is a horrible thing.  Jonas is the one that notices and starts seeing things that other people can’t. There is most likely going to be one person in a utopian society that figures something out and can’t tell.

If you think a utopia is always perfect you’re wrong, they can change any minute. After reading the book “The Giver” by Lois Lowry you will notice that perfect places can have bad things happen.
