Sam and Tim's difference's (Comparitive Essay)

My comparative essay is on Tim and Sam from the book “My Brother Sam is dead” by Christopher collier and James collier. It is about a boy’s brother joining the army and wanting to grow up like him by being brave and outgoing. He doesn’t know what unexpected things could happen to his brother though.

Sam from the book "My brother Sam is dead” is a brave boy that joins the war. Sam's dad doesn't want him going to war because he's afraid of him dyeing. Even though he's afraid he doesn't show it; he just yells at Sam. Sam gets in fights with him a lot because of the war. As you read this book you will see that Sam is a brave and strong willed boy.

Tim from the same book is and outgoing young boy that wants to be like his brother Sam. Once you read the book you will notice that there are quite a few differences. Tim is never mean to their dad but sometimes he lies to him because he wants to go on adventures by doing new things. The one time he lied in the book was when he told his dad he wanted to go fishing with Mr. Heron but really he was going to deliver a message for him. Tim felt really bad about lying because it was a sin and if his dad found out he would be really mad.

You can trust Tim more than you can trust Sam because he is more respectful to people and can keep from opening or wanting to know something more than Sam. When Tim was delivering the letter, Betsy Sam’s girlfriend came up and was questioning him about what was in the envelope.  Tim wouldn’t open the envelope even thought Betsy was making up all this stuff that could be in it. If it was Sam he would have most likely opened it because Betsy would have told him to.

Later on down the road Betsy jumped on him and grabbed for the envelope that was in his shirt pocket. She had him pinned to the ground while he was kicking and swinging his arms all over trying to break free. After a few minutes of wrestling Betsy grabbed the envelope and ran toward town while ripping the envelope off. Tim got up and chased after her as fast as he could until she threw it back over her shoulder and let it float to the ground like a leaf in gentle autumn breeze. Since it was out of the envelope he decided to just pick it up and read it. It said “If this message is received he shall be our messenger.

His dad had to have a lot of trust in him to let him come deliver the cattle. Tim also worries about his dad more than Sam because Life there father is against everything that he wants to do. When Tim went with his dad to deliver that cattle to the butcher some cattle thieves came and surrounded them and their cattle. One of them rode up to Life and talked to him about giving them some cattle but Life wouldn’t no matter what so the cattle thieve pistol whipped him in the head. Life fell to the ground and Tim yelled for them to stop. They told Tim to get out of the wagon and go in the field. He thought of running to town and getting help but the cattle thieves would have caught up and trampled him down. Sam used to deliver cattle with him but since he went off to war he hasn’t been able to.

I chose two characters from the same book because it seemed like they had a lot of differences between each other. They also seemed very interesting in the story.

The Cause and Effect

A big conflict in my books is Sam took the brown Bess gun from his house. Since he took that the family won’t be able to hunt for food. His dad will also be very mad because he ran away with it so he could have a gun for war. Sam took the gun so when the continentals came and looked for it they didn’t have it. The continentals thought they were lying so the officer slashed his sword across Sam's dad's face. Tim get's Sam and brings him back; they get home and see there dad sitting there with the cut. Sam caused all of that to happen because of taking the gun. He shouldn’t have took it because he ends up dyeing. Those are all the affects from that.

Kyle's dark secret

One day Kyle and his friends went to a packer game at lambeau field. They were sitting in the top row waiting for the game to begin; it was the packers verse the vikings. Kyle's friends started cheering when the packers came out but Kyle didn't,he just sat there. Stan, one of his friends looked at him and asked why he didn't cheer. He shrugged his shoulders and told Stan he had to go to the bathroom. Kyle walked down the flight of stairs slowly but then suddenly he started running, the vikings were about to come out. Then suddenly he saw the first person in a purple jersey and started to cheer. He didn't know that his friends were standing right behind him. They grabbed his arm and started to beat him up,Stop, Stop he said but they didn't they just kept beating on him. He ended up going to the hospital because of liking the vikings.

My Brother Sam is dead point of view

Authors Note- I wrote about the big points of view in the story Sam and his dad had

Mr. Meeker, Sam's dad thinks Sam's going to die and that's why he doesn't want him going to war. He's always yelling at Sam because he cares about him and doesn't want him getting hurt.  Mr. Meeker is mad at Sam for taking the Brown Bess because they used that gun for protection and now Sam's got it with him in the war. Later on in the book the Continentals come to Mr. Meeker's house and threaten to kill him because he thinks he's lying about their gun.  Sam and Tim come back and see their dad standing with a small cut across his face.Sam ends up running away again after seeing his dad like that. He doesn't know that his dad cares about him so much because the only reason he yells at him is because he doesn't want him getting hurt.
Sam's wants to go to war but his dad doesn't want him to. He thinks his dad hates him because hes always yelling at him for wanting to join the army. Sam doesn't like his dad because of that but his dad just doesn't want him getting killed. Sam ends up joining the army later on in the story. After joining the army he and serving for awhile he dies because of getting captured.

The Under Cover Vampire

A crash, like that of a window breaking, woke me with a start. I burst up off of my couch and grabbed my tazer. I heard foot steps coming from the kitchen so I got up and walked towards the noise. It was a short chubby guy taking the thanksgiving turkey and powdered donuts. I ran up to him and tazed him he just sat there and laughed like I didn't do anything.  I grabbed my ice cream and put a spoonful down every foot until it was out of my door. He followed along while eating every bit of ice cream.  As soon as he got out of my house I slammed the door shut and looked out the window. He started walking toward the house again except this time he grabbed the mail box and started bashing threw the window. I ran towards my panic room and turned on the cameras so I could see were he was. I saw him on the camera that was aiming at the panic room door. He ripped the 6000 lb door off somehow and stared down  upon me. I backed into the corner were my gun was. He began to swing the mail box at me I  pulled up the gun and shot nine times. He shrieked and suddenly turned into a bat form. I should have known he was a vampire trying to suck my blood.
